I’m bursting at the seams to show you our new kitchen! BUT, before I do the full-on reveal (TRUST ME I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO SHOW) I’m going to share how we used two LG gas ranges side by side in the new Lakehouse kitchen! Whaaaa….it’s such a super hack to save mega moula! I also love that having 60″ inches of range area meant that we could build a huge hood surround which is just the most stunning look ever to me! I can’t wait to share how we pulled this look off!
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Brick. As always, all of the opinions here are my own.
We found our LG 6.3 Cu. Ft. Slide-In Gas Ranges with Probake Convection™ at The Brick. In our last home we had an LG Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Washer, and Dryer and could not have been happier with them all, so we knew LG was the way to go with our new home. OMG, I’m kind of really obsessed with the view of all the big round knobs all lined up beside each other!!!
Why 2 Two Gas Ranges Side by Side and not just a 48″ Range?
If you guys remember our last Colourful Kitchen Renovation Reveal, we had a 48″ range. What I learned about our 48′ range was that the small side oven can’t fit one thing…not even a baking sheet…I still don’t know what it’s for or if anybody else does either, other than to look cool and add more burners on top. That same luxury 48″ range with the not so functioning side oven also comes with an insane price tag. So, this time around I wanted a solution with true double ovens, lots of burner, and a great price tag! Hmmm….pretty tall order! Then I remembered I saw two 30″ gas ranges side by side to make one mega 60″ range years ago in the Chris Loves Julia Kitchen Reveal….did you guys see that reveal? That was it….not only would the range area have two fully functioning ovens, but so many more burners and be affordable! Woohoo! We chose the LG 6.3 Cu. Ft. Slide-In Gas Range with Probake Convection™ from The Brick to achieve this high-end, high-functioning look for a steal!
Why Not Wall Ovens and a Cook Top?
I really prefer the look of a range over that of wall ovens, which often come in a double oven option, because then you need a cooktop and cooktops for me don’t spark joy. I don’t want to offend anyone, who enjoys them, but we had wall ovens before and I tried to make this great range area with an induction cooktop in our Midcentury to Modern French Country Kitchen Renovation and at the end of the day I was left feeling really….meh.
I asked my husband Matt (who is such a chef!) about whether I should include this part in my post or not, and he said yes! He said he had such high hopes for the induction top in our last kitchen, and he said right away he knew he preferred gas once we started using that kitchen. He also said this set up we have now is his favourite from all 4 of our kitchen renovations! It makes me so happy to hear that from him! That it’s not only stylish but really functional!
Plus, if there are still any doubts, from a cost perspective you would then have to purchase 3 things- two wall ovens and a cooktop and you would be way over the double range price and only have half of the burners. So all of this thinking and overthinking (lol!) lead me to our final decision that we are loving honestly because with today’s kitchen trends: the bigger, wider, chunkier range and hood you can do the better! A beautiful range situation makes such a wonderful focal point in the room, amIright? lol!!
Multiples in Design
If you haven’t noticed, I LOVE multiples of things…like Christmas trees, and wreaths, and just about everything that I buy, I somehow wind up getting two or more! lol! So not only did we do two ranges, but all of a sudden when we were doing the lighting for this space, I was like…wait why not use flush mounts instead of pot lights. Having a row of flush mounts could be super cute! Flush mounts can be pricey and often underwhelming, so I was so happy to find this beaded beauty (that is on a great sale btw!). I love the texture and warmth that the wood beads and tassels in these flush mounts add, and the multiples are so fun! I fully need to do a post on flush mounts because I think I know everyone that exists now after searching for these! lol!
Huge Hood over Side by Side Gas Ranges
So this hood was the trickiest part of designing the entire kitchen hands down, by far! lol! What happened was I had always had this end result envisioned, but I couldn’t find anyone who would make my corbels and kept saying they would be too expensive, so I ordered really plain boring cabinets to go all the way across with two boring cabinets to hold that up on both sides. Then at the last (way past last minute point) I called my kitchen company and asked if it was too late to delete all those cabinets!! Somehow it wasn’t, so I did! Then suddenly, I was on my own to figure out the rest.
Designing and producing my own hood was pretty stressful, honestly, and turned out to be what I lost the most sleepover. I just didn’t want to have screwed up not going with a cabinet company. Finally with the help of Matt’s brother Ben, I explained exactly what I wanted and he hand drew these corbels on cardboard, and we had Trim Choice (An amazing local company that makes trim and everything you could need out of wood) come out to our house and talk it all through and then make them!
The craziest part is that we deleted 5k worth of cabinets and this area cost less than 1k to have made, and to me, it looks like a million dollars! It’s always been my dream to have a kitchen with giant corbels and I’m so happy that it came to life!
Most Stylish Pots and Pans!
Oh my gosh, guys I’m loving these copper pots and pans that we got from The Brick, they are the Cuisinart Classic Collection 10-Piece Stainless Colour Series Cookware Set in Copper. They would make a great last minute Christmas gift for a cook or for a wife who loves pretty kitchen items! Matt is the cook in our house, so I surprised him with these when we moved in. He immediately put our old ones in a donation box which made me so happy because they were so worn out! I’m excited to start sharing Matt cooking in our kitchen more!
Before and After
Ok so to explain what you’re looking at below, the window is in the same place but now has the ranges in front, the original rang is now where the fridge is. We totally opened up the front entry which isn’t pictured in the new photos but will be with the full kitchen reveal! AND of course most importantly I’ll be sharing how we took out a huge wall and main the whole main living space open concept!
I can’t wait to show you the full space and share more about our other appliance choices! What do you guys think about using two gas ranges side by side?
