I’m so excited to share our new salvaged farmhouse laundry room with you that we partnered with The Brick and LG Canada on! The inspiration for the salvaged farmhouse laundry room came to me once we decided on our LG TWINWash™ front-load washer and electric dryer. I was immediately drawn to the contrast between the hyper modern technology of the LG laundry machines and the 1886 age of our home. I wanted to keep that contrast by using only salvaged farmhouse materials for the laundry room renovation.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Brick. As always, all of the opinions here are my own.
The Original Kitchen
We carved the space for this laundry nook out of what was the original kitchen. Do you remember in the fall when we turned the dining room into our kitchen?
We used the space from the original kitchen to create a powder room and a laundry room. In the photo above we built a wall where the window on the left is. Now that window is in the new powder room. You can see the new wall on the left in the photo below.
Before
After!
Salvaged Farmhouse Laundry Room Floors
When we demo’d the original kitchen we discovered the original hardwood under the linoleum. Instead of refinishing it, we decided to leave it all beat up and faded from walking in certain places because we loved its patina and the story it held about the original space. You can see the hole in the floor from the sink and dishwasher. Still thinking about whether we want to try and fill those holes or not.
20 Square Foot Laundry Room?
The space is super small (such an understatement), so my challenge was to figure out how to add a ton of character with no space for cabinetry or countertop. (We couldn’t do a countertop because of the window). I really wondered if I could make it feel like a true laundry room with only 20 square feet? Honestly, it does feel like it’s own room. I think it’s all the details that make this space.
Salvaged Farmhouse Laundry Room Antique Clothesline
It’s crazy because the kitchen originally had a clothesline in it, in this exact place!! (check that first before shot!) It’s like it was meant to be a laundry room all along! We replaced the window and the trim but then put the clothesline back up. It’s such a fun salvaged detail.
LG TWINWash™ Features
We chose the LG TWINWash™ because the features on these machines are unreal. I love the SteamFresh cycle on the dryer. You can get all of the wrinkles out of your clothes in minutes, so you never need to iron a thing again. It’s amazing. I also love the Air Dry function so you can dry your clothes without heat that might shrink them.
LG SideKick Pedestal Washer
The LG TwinWASH™ has a secret weapon that you won’t believe! Below the washer is the LG SideKick™ Pedestal Washer which is a second mini washer?! Hellllrrr…so perfect for when you have sudden stains and don’t want to do an entire load. Ummm like when you’re potty training or just the accidents that occur ALL DAY LONG with kids!
Salvaged Farmhouse Laundry Room Baskets
Not only did we find our LG laundry machines at The Brick but I found the best vintage inspired baskets that come in a set with 3 sizes there, too. I’m planning on using the smallest size in the powder room for toilet paper, the medium basket in the family room with blankets, and the large basket in the laundry room for towels for the pool. I LOVE them so much!
Motor City Cleaners Neon Sign
We found our neon sign at Detroit Antique Mall on a search for any materials that might work for our laundry room. It was actually Matt that found it. All of a sudden he called me over and pointed up. We were both just in shock at how perfect the sign was. I still can’t even believe it actually.
Salvaged Farmhouse Beadboard and Corbels
On another trip searching for materials for the laundry room, we found: salvaged beadboard from farmhouse; a pile of corbels, and the wood plank we used for this shelf. We found everything at an awesome antique spot near my house called The Dusty Loft. We’ve been finding treasures there for years! We also bought a salvaged door to use as the door to the powder room to tie everything together. (I can’t wait to show you the powder room too, once it’s done!)

Salvaged Farmhouse Laundry Room Styling Accessories
Glass Jars
Glass Jars are perfect for a laundry room. You can fill them with clothes pins, dryer sheets, and powder detergent.
Demi-Johns
I also styled some Demi-Johns that I found at The Brick with pussy willows. It would be perfect to style them with blossoms that the trees are covered in, right now.
Thank you so much to Matt Cornies for all your help with the construction, and to Vicki Bartel for the gorgeous pics!
AND a huge, gigantic, ginormous thank you to @LGCanada and The Brick for helping me to make this little 20 square foot space into a dream laundry room!
What do you guys think of the space? Do you like the salvaged look against the laundry machines?? Would love to hear your thoughts?

Love this! You are so talented! Wished you lived closer to have you give us “tips”, but so enjoy seeing your renos on your home. Showing my husband and asking, can we do this, as our home was built in the 1870’s. Need to do a road trip to the salvage place. Thanks for sharing.
leslie says
You could totally do this!! Just start collecting the pieces you need! We actually bought salvaged porch posts to hold up the countertop but we didn’t have enough space in the end to put them in, so that’s another cool detail and material you could hunt for!

I’m usually just meh over laundry rooms, but I absolutely love yours. You nailed it. It’s one of the most interesting laundry rooms I’ve seen in a very long time. That sign is to die for. I can’t believe you guys found that. I looooove Dusty loft antiques, my sister and I go there all the time and meander around in a transe twirling our hair trying to imagine so many of those beautiful finds in our home. Just a fantastic, fun, whimsical room Leslie……….leave the holes, love those too.
leslie says
Thank you so much…I can be meh over laundry rooms too! As I get older I’m learning to do less to a space but think about high impact. Leaving the floors really was about letting go of perfection because it doesn’t make you like a space one ounce more when everything is perfect, then you focus on any mistake so much and it doesn’t make you like the space more when you live in it that’s for sure…imperfection is liberating!! Maybe we’ll run into each other at the Dusty Loft…I would love that!

Goodmorning!!! Absolutely love your laundry room, and the girls are so cute sitting on top of the washer and dryer. I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the table that was sent my way. Mom was over for a visit the other day, and delivered it to me. Its huge!!!! Wasn’t sure where to put it at first, so for now, its made its home outside on my raised deck. I’ve put my own personal “Monica Style” spin on it. A Boston fern graces the centre, surrounded by plants in pretty pots, and candles. I think you’d be impressed. Thanks so much again, Monica (one quarter of the Maple Leaf Sisters).
leslie says
Oh you’re so welcome! Glad you found a spot for it! xoxo
