Our New Modern House First Look

Hi Guys, I’m dying to share something so exciting with you…our new modern house first look! In case you missed it we sold our lake house, and you can get caught up on that story by clicking, here. Every time something big happens in my life my gut instinct is to go radio silent and just process forever, till it’s too late, and I miss the whole thing! LOL! But it’s true! When I got engaged, not even intentionally, I kept it a secret…same thing when I was pregnant both times. I just process really internally, which does not work for blogs at all…lol! When it comes to my projects, I need to share the process more and take you guys on the journey instead of just a reveal at the end that comes out of nowhere….out of the radio silence!

You might be wondering why after renovating 6 homes over the last 12 years would be buy a new house? To be honest we put thousands of hours into every house and poured over every detail and I really wanted to experience that feeling of enjoying a home that was someone’s masterpiece that they had put so much thought into the details for me.

Everyone kept telling my husband and I that we’d never be happy with a home built by someone else, but we both really wanted a home that had all the bells and whistles and was created by a talented architect and builder. I just knew that the perfect house was looking for us too.

To say that I looked hard is such an understatement. I became an absolute maniac, you have to ask Matt. It was insane. I was refreshing MLS like every 5 seconds and door knocked probably 30 people if not more over the last 3 years. The most interesting thing is that this house in the end came right to us. A neighbour told us about a house that would be coming for sale in the Spring (we were told this on labour day weekend 2022) We couldn’t believe it because it was such a rare find. There is this insanely reputable architecture design/build firm in our area called Grossi- they are known for making the most stunning high-end modern homes and this was the owner’s own home. He was getting married and was going to build a larger home for his growing family.

We were freaking out because we loved his homes and saw this as our chance to get one of his works of art for ourselves. Our awesome friend, Adam, (thank you Adam!) gave our number to the owner and he called us and arranged a viewing. Matt kept telling me not to get too excited because what were the odds that it would work? I agreed, but secretly hoped! It was pretty wild, we parked and walked up the driveway and then up the path and by the time we got to the front door we were already in total love with the place. The outdoor lighting, the way that he did each cement step in a separate piece with stones between that feels like a zen spa…

We stepped up to the door and when he opened the door, we walked in and right then we both knew. First of all the owner and his wife had the most amazing energy ever, I wish I could bottle it! Then we looked around in awe. The entire time they gave us a tour we were just like no way, no, no, you can’t be serious this is too amazing. He just thought of every detail ever and we were just so in shock with total admiration. He and his wife kept saying, “you need to see the place at night to fully appreciate the landscaping”…which is absolutely one of the reasons we had to have it. You guys the backyard is from our dreams it’s just EVERYTHING. The entire interior floor plan focuses on looking out at the modern pool.

So we arranged to come back the next evening on our own, and to just sit in the backyard with all the lights on. Well that did it. It felt like we were in a backyard right out of a home on Million Dollar Listing LA. I can’t wait to show you!!

Over the past 5 months while we have waited for the possession date, I have been busy designing the inside…I have had so much fun taking on a new modern style. (Yes it’s almost made us crazy waiting 8 months for the possession date our new home!) I can’t wait to show you what I have been up to. One of my favourite purchases for the new place has been the artwork! I will share more about the interior style and design choices in the next posts!

Where Are We Currently Staying?

We are at our home that we renovated before the lakehouse. It’s an 1886 Heritage home that we turned into an airbnb when we moved. I did a little update to the home when we moved back in a few months ago and you can see that here.
