Hi Guys, I have some really exciting news to share with you! Our Lakehouse was just featured in a 16-page spread in American Farmhouse Style Magazine! I can’t believe that I just typed that! I’m shook! lol!! Just to give you a little background, our lakehouse has been a massive renovation that we have now been overhauling for 2.5 years and are going to finish in the next month. This home was in such rough shape that it sat on the market for years! In fact, we looked at it 3 house renovations before we bought it. What I mean is that we looked at it in 2014, passed because it was too much work, bought, renovated, and moved into three other houses and then realized we could totally take on the level of work, and it was still listed in 2019, so we bought it! You know what is crazy too, is that in the past 1.5 years, our area has blown up and now the average days on market for a home is 9! 9 days! Knowing the history of the home and how much love it needed, I couldn’t be more proud of our little family for turning it around and shining it up enough to be in a magazine! Honestly, this lakehouse deserved all the love we gave it…it’s such a special spot, with the most amazing neighbours, and this is the best way to end the renos! I just want to say thank you so much to American Farmhouse Style for making this happen!! Ok, I can’t wait to show you our Lakehouse feature in American Farmhouse Style Magazine!
How Did American Farmhouse Style Magazine Get into Contact?
In case you’re wondering how this dream came to be, here’s exactly how it happened. The editor reached out over Instagram in a direct message and asked if I would like to have the photos from my Spring home tour featured in the following year’s Spring issue. So last year, I shared a post called, Spring Home Tour 2020, and American Farmhouse Style really liked the photos and asked if they could publish them in this year’s Spring issue! This is where I thank my photographer Jessica Ruxton Photography for being so damn amazing that they chose 16 of her photos to feature in the magazine! I mean…how talented is she?! You know what’s a crazy little personal story about us? Our Mom’s are best friends…and somehow both their daughters ended up in a related field and we started collaborating together 2 years ago! Love that story!
Have Your Homes Ever Been in a Magazine Before?
Yes, I have actually been so incredibly lucky and have had our homes featured in a magazine before. The first time was in 2017…our home was featured in the Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Issue. I was blown away. We had actually been asked to be featured for that Christmas decor by Style At Home Magazine and Canadian Living, but you can only be in one magazine at a time, I found out, because the magazine wants an exclusive to the content. For that shoot, Better Homes and Gardens Magazine flew out a stylist and photographer and they spent and entire day shooting our home. I had to keep my 2016 Christmas decorations up for months for the shoot, and then it appeared in the 2017 Christmas issue…it was such an honour!! You can see that styling in these posts: Modern Vintage Holiday Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen.
That same home, which I called, “Midcentury to French Country” because we took a flat-roof midcentury ranch and transformed it into a french country home with a massive vaulted ceiling, was also featured in Our Homes Magazine, which is a local Windsor, Ontario based magazine, and in this article in the Toronto Star.
I have a post you can read that’s all about our choice to have two gas ranges, and you can read it here.
All the details of our dining room can be found in these two posts: Lake House Dining Room Reveal and Maren Devine Prints in the Dining Room
You can see our Master Bedroom reveal reno that we did for the One Room Challenge, here.
I just wanted to say thank you again to American Farmhouse Style so much for this opportunity!! My family is so appreciative! Thank also to Jessica Ruxton Photography for the most beautiful photos!

I mean, I mean, I mean, I’m at a loss for words, and that never, ever, ever happens, it’s that beautiful. It reminds me of those light and airy and fluffy cream cheese adds with that angel and Albert, just heavenly.
