Holy Crap! We got SOOOOO much done on our Dining Room One Room Challenge this past week!! Last week I was crying and this week I am super pumped up by all the progress! I can’t wait to share our chandelier and freshly painted space! Make sure you read right to the end to see the space right now with the chandelier hung!

Trim Updates
Since last week, we added a panel moulding below the crown under the window sill…Juliette held it up for me when Matt refused to even talk about the room anymore! lol! That little panel mould was the perfect last piece!
We also added a chair rail and panel mould to the ceiling stepping in from the ceiling crown moulding. I love doing this! It makes the crown feel gigantic!! All of our other trim details and info on profiles can be found here!
Paint
Our entire house is painted in Premier Paint from Canadian Tire in the colour Snowy Owl and I am obsessed with it! Check out Tyler from Fresh Coat in Kingsville attacking the paint job! I cannot ever, as long as I live, say enough good things about Tyler. If you need something painted or even if you don’t…you need to work with Tyler!

Chandelier
If you follow me, you know that lighting is just BEYOND important to me. It’s the inspiration and focal point that I always start with. I feel that stunning lighting makes the biggest difference in a space.
Lighting Connection
I was so happy with both our Jarrod Chandelier and Tilda Chandelier from Lighting Connection that it wasn’t even a question that I was getting my dining room light from Lighting Connection.

Our New Dining Room Chandelier (Eeeeep!)
I knew that I wanted a statement chandelier (obviously!!!) My inspiration for choosing this light came from the fact that the dining room is right off of the kitchen and we have a blue/green island. When I saw the Saltwater Chandelier I thought it was so perfect because the big chunky pieces of beach glass on it were the exact colour of our island.
Modern Eclectic Transitional
I love lights that feel like a mix of styles. This light is eclectic, modern, transitional, and whimsical all at the same time. I love when I can mix styles in one space, so that there is a tension between the styles. The tension keeps things interesting. If the space is too modern it feels cold to me, or if it’s two feminine or traditional then it’s got no edge. I can’t wait to get the furniture in here!
Size Does Matter!
Let’s be honest, you need a huge light to add drama and ambiance to a space. I wanted a light that was HUGE, but that was very open because it’s a small space. This chandelier is 30″ x 30″ but doesn’t feel overpowering or obstruct the view at all, because of how open it is. The beach glass is also perfect because it catches the light from all sides, so beautifully.
How Do I Pick Lights?
You won’t believe how many lights I consider before choosing. I try the potential lighting options in a mock up in Photoshop first. It’s actually crazy how many I try. I’m currently doing this with dining room chairs and it’s going to crash my computer, I have so many layers in the photoshop file!
Here is a screen grab of my mock-up. I just keep alternating the lights over the table a million times until I know it’s the right look and feel!
I numbered all of the lights in the mock-up that I was considering and have linked them below, in case you’re considering a new chandelier. Every. Single. One. was a huge contender. I can’t tell you how hard the decision was.
