Ok so it’s week 2 of the One Room Challenge and our enchanted private dining room is well under way. It’s time to share the dining room plans! Today I’m talking about our trim plans. Honestly, trim makes the biggest difference in a space. It takes it from a blank box to Versailles…seriously! I also want to take you inside the space and show you the new windows!
In case you missed my Week 1 introductory post to the soon to be dining space, get caught up…there was like a whole mini renovation in it!
Exterior Dining Room Progress!
Interior Dining Room Progress
Yuckola Door Gonzo! Woohoo!
This Past Week
Since last week we had electrical run to the ceiling for the CHANDELIER of DREAMS…more on that to come in the coming weeks. It’s just beyond! EEEEEP!
That’s the chandelier in the big gigantic box!!
Metrie Trim Order
You guys the Metrie trim delivery truck came this afternoon and dropped off all of our trim!!! Metrie is the brand that all the designers use! I actually fell in love with them after finding out that my major design crush Christine Dovey uses Metrie. They have so many profiles and they are organized into 5 collections by style. I actually recently saw the Fashion Forward Scene II collection in a stunning home. I almost died because I liked it so much. I am such a nerd that I can remember a trim profile and find it later. Not normal.
So when I got the chance to do more trim work for our dining room, I already knew right away I was going to use the trim in Metrie’s Fashion Forward collection. It has these huge gorgeous half rounds in every profile!
Honestly check out this chair rail and baseboard!
Trim Plans
In the space there will be crown moulding, multiple ceiling details to make the crown mega gorgeous.
Crown moulding creating a ledge below the window sill which we are beefing up to be a huge mantle style sill. Then I can use it to display things and garlands at Christmas…just extra design real estate you know?!
Below the windows there will be a double set of really chunky wainscoting boxes.
Then the gorgeous baseboard with a quarter round at the base.
OMG I almost forgot to mention the ARCHITRAVE* over the windows!!
*In case you aren’t familiar with architrave it looks like this and is killer over doors and windows!
Can’t you just see it now…lol! I can’t wait to get it up and painted and share the before and after!
Caulking the Ceiling
This week Matt has been caulking each space in the original tongue and groove ceiling to keep out drafts and make things look better. it’s such a slow process, but check out the difference between these two photos! So much better!
Next week I hope to share all the details on the furnishings, which I’m still working like crazy on to source!
I revealed our airy, modern, feminine bathroom renovation reveal this week in case you missed!
See you next Thursday for week 3….I can’t wait to make more progress!
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the One Room Challenge makeovers underway!

This isn’t going to look like a typical dining room, it’s going to look even better. This will be the enchanted, whimsical, cozy, charming little oasis that your guests and yourselves will enjoy being in, for as long as you have this house. It looks beautiful unfinished, I can only imagine when it’s complete. Also, love, love, love the exposed brick wall.
leslie says
Oh my gosh Mary, thank you for the vote of confidence because I really need it right now!! We’re having so many second thoughts about if it will really feel like a dining room so thanks so much for the encouragement, so I can get pumped up again! lol!
