This marble ensuite didn’t start as a bathroom at all — it was a small eating nook just off the old kitchen, with beige walls, tile floors, patio doors, no view to the golf course, and no real purpose. When I re-worked the layout of the home, everything finally clicked: the original primary ensuite was tiny, dark, and didn’t even have a bathtub (I literally take a bathtub every day, so that was a huge deal breaker for me!), while this unused space had the footprint, the light, and the potential. So we flipped them — the original ensuite became our walk-in closet, and this unused corner became the light-filled bathroom I had always imagined.
Designing a Light-Filled Marble Ensuite Bathroom
The room is completely wrapped in marble — the walls, the shower surround, even the tub deck and pony wall. I always choose real marble in my baths and tile, it has the most beautiful timeless character and feeling. The flooring is my favourite detail: a marble tile that feels like lattice, airy and almost garden-like underfoot. To bring that same language upward, I chose sage-green mirrors with a trellis-style frame. They add just enough colour to keep the space warm and interesting, without pulling away from the serene palette.
We vaulted the ceiling when we opened the room up, which created so much height and a sense of calm — and made space for the polished nickel lantern that now hangs over the tub. It’s a beautiful moment: soft drapery, sunlight streaming through the window, and a deep freestanding bathtub perfectly centred beneath it. The window was once a patio door, but replacing it with divided-light glass completely changed the atmosphere. It feels architectural now, intentional and classic.
The double vanity is topped with Super White Extra quartzite- a natural stone with the same tone as marble but not porous or soft so really durable. I used this stone on my counter in the Lakehouse. It’s such a beautiful stone. Everything feels cohesive — sage, white, polished nickel, stone. Clean but layered. Quiet luxury without trying too hard.
Every morning in this space feels like stepping into a boutique hotel suite!

Before Shot of Original Dinning Nook
We live on a beautiful golf course, which is on the front of the house, so all the houses on our street create patios on the front to take advantage of the views. These patio doors went to the back which would never be where anyone anyone would want to hang out, so there was no love lost here! We still have another door to the back, which you can see in this photo through the patio doors.

QDesign Drapery

One of the most important elements in this room is the drapery. We worked with Q Design Centre again and chose their 100% Linen Drapery in Oyster, this time without a cotton lining so the panels could filter the light beautifully while still giving us full privacy from the homes behind us. We keep these drapes closed almost all the time—the soft, diffused light they create is such a calming contrast to all the marble, and it ties the ensuite back into the quiet, polished palette of the rest of the house. The panels are finished with a 6” two-fold pleat and hang from the same 1⅜” Luxe Polished Nickel hardware with endcaps we used throughout the home, keeping everything consistent, tailored, and elevated.
