I’m going to explode I’m so excited to finally have another reveal done at our new Lake House Reno! This space is where I am sitting and typing from right now and my absolute favourite spot to be in the house!! My goal for the space was for it to feel modern, feminine, and coastal! Are you feeling it? K I can’t even wait any longer to share the Lake House Living Room reveal with you!!
Lake House Reveals
If you’re new to the Lake House, get up to speed with all the recent reveals from this dramatic renovation!

Lake House Statement Chandelier
I think I start all of my reveals out with my lighting because I’m always so obsessed, and lighting is where my mood boards begin, and it’s the thing I’m most excited to see installed! I can’t even say enough about how important lighting is!
I have loved this Gabby Clay Chandelier for so long. This chandelier is perfect because the arms are sculptural and make a statement while feeling so light and airy, so that the view to the lake outside isn’t blocked at all. I have 8 foot ceilings and it fit perfectly hung with no chain. This chandelier also comes in a larger size with 8 arms that would be gorgeous if you had 9ft ceilings or more. I adore it! It’s a really great price too!
Bookshelves in the Lake House Living Room
I had our carpenter Matt’s brother make these floating shelves from leftover wood from the floor.
Fireplace and Mantle
One of my main goals for the space was to have the fireplace and mantle be the focal point of the room and symmetrical on both sides. I love symmetry and it makes being in a space feel amazing.
Gas Insert
The fireplace insert is so important. Creating floating shelves recessed into the drywalled framing this way and making the mantle from wood were both steals and a spot I chose to save money. The splurge here is the gas insert. I believe you need to splurge and allocate renovation dollars to your gas insert. I love a large insert that can sit right on the floor and have no louvres-just all gorgeous viewing area. I also love when there is a herringbone background to the insert rather than a black void. It really adds to the warmth of the home.
Forestglade Fireplaces
Every gas insert we have ever had- WHICH IS A LOT! I’m not even kidding you- in my life of homes and renovations I have personally put in 7 gas fireplaces! I’m serious 7! Every single one has been from Forestglade Fireplaces and we deal directly with the owner John LiCausi. I cannot say enough good things about John and his family owned and operated business.
We have had amazing installs and customer service each time and our installs are always so complicated because I need them to be exactly what I want and we’re working with a renovation and it’s just always perfect. If you’re local, Forestglade Fireplaces is the only place I would recommend going. I have complete faith and trust in this company and I’m so happy to share them with you!!
Ginger Jars
All of our ginger jars, including this beautiful monogrammed one which has become my favourite is from Lo Home. I love all of her pieces!
Sculptural Side Table
I love how this Gabby side table adds a bold modern contrast against our more traditional chesterfield style sofa. I’m only a little obsessed with Gabby!! We’ve taken these matching sofas with it to 3 homes now! Isn’t that crazy…they just work in every setting. I would love to try a pair of matching chairs on one side maybe down the road though.
Q Design Custom Drapery
I’m so excited to finally share our Q Design custom drapery in all its glory! I have been drooling over custom drapery for years and I’m here to say that custom drapery lives up to all the hype and more! Not a person comes into our home without commenting on the drapes. They add so much to the house it’s amazing. I’m just so in love with them and the hardware.
Q Design is amazing to work with. The owner Lindsay will walk you through every step of the way and then turn your order around and have it arrive at your door ready to hang with installation instructions. It’s the most confidence I’ve ever had placing an order because she is such an expert in her field.
These drapes are the cozy linen in Polar with 6″ 2 fold pinch pleats with cotton lining, length: kissing the floor. The hardware is the satin brass linked here, and I chose the knob finial. You can see the install of this drapery on my Instagram story here. I am so happy with them! You will not regret this splurge-so so worth it.
Shiplap Coastal Ceiling
Another one of my all-time favourite details in living room is the Metrie Shiplap Ceiling. In the midst of all the stress – and so badly wanting the project to progress quicker, I ALMOST didn’t do a shiplap ceiling. HOLY CRAP, just writing those words hurts my heart because it would have been such a colossal mistake. Like in Pretty Woman when the sales lady doesn’t help Julia Roberts and she comes back and she’s like, “Big Mistake-Huge!” Like that is how bad it would have been because it has ended up being one of the most elevating aspects of the finishing. If you’re in the space you notice it every second!
Ceiling Low Down
We achieved the look of our ceiling with Metrie Option M Shiplap linked here. We used 16′ legnths, so we have no seams! The ceiling looks amazing and feels so coastal. With 8′ ceilings the shiplap really adds much needed sophistication and they are just stunning in person. The crown moulding that I used is this one linked here. I did not go with the Option M crown because this home has a really feminine vibe and I wanted curves. I used this Metrie crown as the crown in my kitchen as well, so that everything flowed seamlessly.
Patios Doors and Front Door
Our doors are from Anderson Windows. Originally we had planned on painting them but we were so lucky that the wood colour they came in naturally blended so well with our floors, so we are keeping them how they are! They have become such a statement in the room. Across the back we have a 16″ set and an 8″ set all in a row. I can’t wait for summer to open everything up. Ask for Steve the owner if you’re local- he is really amazing to work with!
Lake House Floors
We are so happy with the choice I made, and love our flooring! Here are the details on our floors again. It’s from A & A Flooring (which is right here in Kingsville and in Essex) It’s Opus Hardwood in Shawnee and the series is Alton Oak II…the price is $6.99/sqft
I’m super excited that A & A Flooring is willing to offer you guys a 10% discount on any of your materials!! **So this is important- you have to mention this at the start of the sale and you can use code LESLIEHWD and ask to speak to Chris or Art…hope this helps with your renos and new builds because picking hardwood can be a wild goose chase for sure trying to find that exact right look and feel!
Before and After Lake House Living Room Renovation
Oh my gosh we did so much, like removing a massive steal beam that had the ceiling dropped to 7 feet, and I closed off the opening to the family room on the other side of the fireplace, so that I could centre the fireplace and create a living room with a strong focal point and symmetry, and switched all the windows to patio doors…can’t wait to show you more of our renovations with the kitchen reveal!!
I would love to hear what you think?

Where did you get the round coffee table in your living room?
leslie says
I actually ordered it myself through a wholesaler and shipped it to the States and picked it up like over a year ago, so I don’t have a link. They used to sell it at The Cross Design but I don’t see it there anymore. Sorry I’m not more help.

It’s so beautiful, I knew it would be but yet again you have totally outdone your self! The combo of all the natural wood and textures and your light bright esthetic are so stunning! I can’t pick a favorite part!

Hi Leslie,
We just bought a lake house here in Utah, and you have been such an inspiration for me! I am trying to pull off this look in my home right down to the light – so I wanted to thank you for sharing all your sources and info. Could you tell me the paint color in your living room? I’ll have to get some pictures to you when I have finished :).
leslie says
Hi Destri, wow that is so amazing and thank you so much for sharing that with me, it means so much! The colour I painted my house is actually from a Canadian company called Canadian Tire. They have a paint line called Premier Paint and the colour is Snowy Owl. It’s a warm light white. It’s a tiny bit lighter than Benjamin Moore Simply white but our cabinets are Simply white and you can hardly tell. Hope that helps!
Best of luck with your project and let me know if you need anymore info ok!
Destri says
That’s too funny! The two whites I was down to were SW pure white or Simply White by Benjamin Moore. Thanks so much!
leslie says
Hi Destri, that’s awesome! Either will be perfect!
