I am so freaking excited to show you our guest bedroom refresh and share the secret to what a guest needs! I’ve transformed our guest bedroom and bath into a total retreat with Serena and Lily! I’m also so excited to share with you my best secrets for creating the perfect space for your loved ones to come and stay this holiday season! Who wants to come for a visit??
How to Help Your Guests Relax
A guest needs to feel like the space they are staying in has been carefully considered. Everyone is so busy in their lives that they don’t have time to iron their bedding, fluff their pillows, layout freshly washed towels, so it feels really special as a guest to walk into a space like this. When a guest stays in our home, I want them to feel like all the stress of their normal life is back at their house- their dirty laundry and piles of random mess are gone and they can really relax in a perfectly uncluttered space. The secret to what a guest needs in order to relax, is a space that has an attention to detail in it that they wouldn’t do for themselves.
I don’t know if you guys know this but, Matt’s brother did a lot of work on our current Lakehouse reno but ran out of time before he finished so we are not moved in yet and he is back home in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he lives. So he is flirting with the idea of coming home for Christmas to help us do more Lakehouse Reno projects…now, honestly, if the best-in-class bedding in this room doesn’t bring him home- I don’t know what will!
A Relaxing and Refreshing Colour Feels so Inviting
This room started off completely white, but something about it wasn’t off-the-charts soothing and relaxing, like I wanted, so I decided to add in colour as part of this guest bedroom refresh, but really subtle and soft colour: sky blue!
Sky Blue
Honestly, the addition of this beautiful colour through the gorgeously textured duvet cover and sheets is making me so happy! It’s like the space finally feels finished. I’m really feeling like a blue in this exact same colour is also just what the Lakehouse needs to make it feel really put together. It’s amazing how adding an accent colour helps to give a designer touch.
Texture
Not only do the sheets and duvet have a ton of texture on the intricate trim border, finished with a fringe, but I chose a coverlet that has the most beautiful texture. It’s called the Montauk Coverlet…I have not been to Montauk but what I picture it’s like there is just so classy and coastal and totally what this coverlet feels like…so freaking classic, coastal, and cozy…I fully plan to use this as a blanket and style it in my living room too. I just love how something can be white but jump off the page because of texture…it’s so chunky and good!!
Guest Bedroom Refresh Designer Secrets
*Secret Designer Bedding Tip*
Use 3 Euro Shams with a queen bed so that it feels much fuller! I learned this tip a little while ago and now whenever I look at gorgeous bedding shots I see that they have 3 Euros š These are the Montauk Euro Shams…I’m a little obsessed with them! A Euro sham in case you’re like why is she calling it that- it’s the big square pillow that goes at the back and makes your bed feel all fancy and ritzy hotel like;)
Lumbar Pillows are Everything
Ok so I know I have literally been shouting that from the rooftops lately but it’s because it’s so freaking true! The polished statement they make on the bed is just so good. I wrote a whole post about this new white textured pillow and all my fav fall throw pillows that you can read here, “2019 Fall Pillow Trends“
Rattan Mirror
The addition of the rattan mirror added so much warmth and texture…note to self add in so much more rattan wherever possible!
High End Hotel Towels Secret
Oh my gosh you know when you stay in a really nice hotel the towels are unreal? K the secret is that they aren’t towels they are bath sheets! Bath sheets are way bigger and so when you wrap yourself up it’s heaven. The bigger the better when it comes to luxurious towels!
Striped Towels Signal Vacation Mode!
I chose these Beach Club striped towels from Serena and Lily because they feel like a resort…I love when you go to lay on a lounger and it has a striped towel…such a classy detail that makes me instantly feel relaxed and seeing them will have your guests feeling that way too and looking for a drink with an umbrella!

Guest Towel Etiquette
When you leave towels for your guests: you leave one towel, one hand towel, and 1 face cloth per guest. I have hooks on the back of every bedroom door, so guests can hang their towels once back in their room to dry for the next day, and I also have a hamper in the closet for when they are finished with them completely.
What do you guys think of the new blue additions to the space?
