Hi Everyone, we are back at our Historic home on Main Street, and I have completely transformed the living room with the help of Annie Selke and Marie Flanigan! This is a pinch me moment for sure! Annie Selke is a brand that I have always loved, as they are known for their incredibly stylish rugs, pillows, throws, and insanely beautiful decor pieces, and Marie Flanigan is literally one of the hottest designers in the world right now! Her interiors have been inspiring me for years! She has a collaboration with Annie Selke right now, and I got the amazing chance to modernize and add loads of beautiful texture to our living room with her collection.
In case you missed it, we sold our lake house and moved back into the home we had renovated before. It’s a heritage, Gothic Revival home from 1886. When we left this home, we actually converted it into a vacation rental/airbnb for Brides to stay at for the their wedding weekend. The home has beautiful light and it’s perfect for wedding day getting ready photos. We bought a new modern home that we’ll be moving into in at the end of April, and we’ll turn this back into a vacation rental. Since, I know where we’re moving, every single piece I picked will actually be for the new home, so I needed the pieces to work in both spaces. I really wanted to modernize the historic home while we were here, so this was such a fun project!
I actually bought new furniture for the space, which will be coming with us to the new living room.
Here is a shot of the very feminine “before” of the space.
Now check out the AFTER!
What do you think? I’m honestly freaking our with how much I love the new space, it feels amazing!

Wool Rug
In order to modernize the space, I needed a new rug. I chose the Avery Oatmeal Tufted Wool Rug. The new rug has a modern, yet timeless pattern. This rug fits perfectly in this heritage home, and I know it will be perfect in our new modern home, which really speaks to its versatility. It’s really special because the rug is made with two different textures: a loop pile and a cut pile. It’s completely neutral. The majority of the rug is an ivory colour, then it has small flecks of black and the stripe is the perfect sand/oatmeal colour. I love it and the quality is incredible. It’s the perfect investment for a space. I got the 10×14 size. My best advice for a rug is to always get the largest rug you can fit in your space. The larger size will elevate the the space, and make the room feel really pulled together, and add a ton of warmth as well.
Pillows, Pillows, and More Pillows!
I can’t believe how much the addition of gorgeous new pillows transformed the space. On the ceiling we have a peony mural that I created with wallpaper decals and it has very dark green leaves. In order to change the feminine feeling the space had, I wanted to minimize the pinks, but I still needed to tie the mural into the space. I found the perfect velvet and linen pillows from the Marie Flanigan line, in the same beautiful deep green called Everglade. Originally, I had pink pillows, and the change to the green has added some masculine tension that really works! It’s amazing too, because the velvet pillows have a linen border that perfectly matches the Belgian linen fabric in the couch. If you have any restoration hardware furniture, it’s a perfect match to their classic sand Belgian linen fabric.
In order to balance the floral ceiling mural and the need for more modern prints, I chose some embroidered pillows that really married the two. I also added a gorgeous Everglade green throw to tie the beautiful green into the chairs.
I love the look of the velvet lumbar pillow layered in front of the geometric square embroidered pillow, pictured below.
One of my favourite additions are the huge 40inch Leni Oatmeal lumbar pillows on the new 10ft couch. I love how modern and textural the Leni Oatmeal pillows are. They are made from a rug. They would be gorgeous on a bed or sitting on a bench in an entryway too! I styled them on their own and with the velvet pillows.
Sculptural Marble Bowls
Lastly, I switched out our coffee table for an 1800’s antique printer’s table that I had, which I cut the legs down on. I love how Marie Flanigan mixes antiques into her modern spaces, and I was inspired to try the look out! I love how it turned out. I chose the most stunning marble bowls from Annie Selke. These bowls would make incredible Christmas gifts. I also styled the table with Marie Flanigan’s coffee table book. I love that I can show everyone her work when I’m gushing about our new rug and pillows!
What do you guys think of the new transitional, more modern, and less feminine space? I can’t wait to show you these pieces in our new super modern home in the spring! Don’t forget to pick up some of those sculptural modern bowls for Christmas gifts!
How about one more before and after of our new living room thanks to Annie Selke and Marie Flanigan!
Here’s a shot of the new space with the pillows rearranged, the combinations are endless!
