I think our mudroom has turned out to be my favourite room in our house! I just love how many details there are in this space. The transformation in here has been unbelievable. I have nicknamed it the mudballroom because we gave it a real marble herringbone floor, wainscoting, chinoiserie wallpaper, a chippendale railing, and my favourite part: a vaulted ceiling! Read right to the end, if you want to see, the before photos of where this lakehouse mudroom renovation reveal all started…you will not believe your eyes!
Custom Wallpaper
The biggest statement in the space is the custom wallpaper that I helped to design from Wallpaperie! I wrote an entire blog post all about the paper with every detail imaginable and you can read that, here. You can actually get the print in any custom colour you want and Amy the owner and designer is the most unbelievable person to work with. This paper has all the things: A linen textured background, large oversized pattern, and the perfects shades of blush, dusty blue, greys, and grey greens! Shop the wallpaper, here.
Love this runner and it’s washable, you can shop it here.
This oval window is actually on an interior wall with a sink under it on the other side. The window provides a beautiful view of the lake through the patio doors on the back wall of the homem, as soon as you walk through the mudroom door!
Bistro Bench Instead of a Built-in
You guys when I was designing the space I could have made a built-in bench but I kept thinking it would be fun and whimsical to have a piece of furniture instead. I fell in love with this french bistro style bench from Caitlin Wilson. I just felt like it added so personality to the space. it’s a really generous size and the perfect place to put on your choose on set down your purse on. I needed to tie in the light green from the wallpaper, so I found the perfect pillow from Jolie Marche to pull it all together with!
The olive tree and pot fit perfectly in any room. I actually have this same olive tree and pot in a smaller size too, I love them paired together so much. You can see the smaller version in my Spring Home Tour last year.
We have a coat closet which you can see in the picture below, but I just added this coat rack and I am obsessed. It’s perfect for the kids to hang their coats and backpacks on since they are too little to use the closet. It’s super sturdy and was a steal!
Best Reno Change: Railing instead of a Wall
One of the best changes we made, that really opened up the space, was removing the wall where the stair railing is now. There was also a window that was hidden behind the wall so not only did it make the room feel twice the size, it let in so much more light. My husband’s brother made the chippendale style railing and we just love it so much!
Before and After Photos…so wild!
