After 10 really full-on months of intensely renovating, I am so freaking excited to share with you the first look at a finished space in our new home: the Lake House Dining Room Reveal. The style of this house is oh so #modernfemininecoastal all at the same time! This reveal is extra special because I’m sharing it for the first time all decorated for Christmas too! I am so excited to have partnered with Gabby Home on some really stunning pieces that I literally can’t wait another second to show you, I can’t tell you how much they elevated the space!
Stunning Statement Chandelier
I’m starting this reveal with the chandelier because, for me, lighting is EVERYTHING in a space and the total focal point always! This is the Sandra Chandelier by Gabby. I have so much to say about this chandelier and why I chose it for the lake house dining room. You guys know that lighting is MY THING and that it has to be oversized and beyond fabulous or bust!!!
You won’t even believe this but, the ceiling height in this punch out space is a few inches under 8ft. (I know right?! But this house is from 1922…and the space used to be a porch. Trust me, the ceiling does not feel low anymore!) I searched the universe for a chandelier that was super wide to fit with our 72″ round dining table, but not be too high. That is the key- super wide but not too tall if you have 8ft” ceilings. That is no easy task, but I feel like I knocked it out the park thanks to Gabby Home. I fell so hard for the Sandra chandelier, the scalloped frame obviously killing me-I am so obsessed with scallops- and the beads…just stoppppp it and the chandelier itself is a jaw dropping 40 inches wide! Oh my gosh it’s unreal! …it’s too perfect!
The best part was that I was able to adjust the bead canopy that hangs below to fit my ceiling height. I simply hung it like a semi-flushmount with no chain, then measured 30″ from my table and adjusted the hanging beads to the exact right height. (I will show you exactly what I’m talking about in my story on Instagram, so keep your eyes peeled ok!) People cannot even believe this chandelier. It’s so stunning and unique! I’ve never seen anyone else with it before…so special! It literally takes my breath away!
To-Die-For Scalloped Dining Chairs
Chandelier / Dining Chairs / Tray
These Coralee dining chairs by Gabby are beyond!. They have so much pattern, but at the same time are neutral and easy to mix in with any space. As soon as people walk-in to our home, they go right for those chairs. One of my closest friends just kept saying, “did you see those chairs?!!” It was so cute and made me feel so good because they were a bold choice…but I think it always pays to go bold! I totally keep saying the same thing to my husband Matt, like every night, “Have you seen our dining room chairs?!?!?” lol! It’s like I can’t believe that they are real- they are so perfect.
I love the Palm Beach vibe and these dining chairs added the perfect dose of Palm Beach modern beachy glam to the dining room that it needs to feel coastal but really elevated. You can also remove the cushion, so I won’t have to have any heart attacks when my kids are eating! lol! They are also huge and comfortable and the perfect height for the table. When the chairs are all tucked in, their curved backs make a flower shape around the table! Dying!
Ginger Jars of Dreams
Oh my goodness these jars from my friend and designer, Lauren Haskell, absolutely kill me. When I finally got to the point of wanting to think through some styling touches, these jars had been on my mind for over a year. I knew that I wanted to get a bunch of different styles and group them all together on my console table. I chose different styles in coordinating colours in hydrangea blue and beige. I already need to get one more that I missed- the Leopard in beige…lol…I’m going to do that like right after I hit publish on this post. All of these pieces are handmade and then handpainted, so you can customize them in any colours you want. A set of 3 would be the perfect gift for anyone!!!
Game Changing Drapery
This room is a punch out of all windows and the house is on the lake, so I knew it needed drapery to make it feel warm and inviting. I honestly even underestimated the effect that it would have. Like our installer said 200 times he couldn’t believe the difference the drapes made…and it was a guy saying that lol! It’s just the most stunning high end detail ever. Our drapes were custom made by Q Design Centre.
This space is so unique with the 5 faces of windows, if it kept going over the opening, it would create an octagon, to give you an idea of the shape. The hardware has elbows that allow the poles to lock together seamlessly. It’s stunning. The owner Lindsay, told me that it is the best hardware available on the market and it’s solid brass…you have to see it to fully appreciate the impact it has on the space!
These drapes are the cozy linen in Polar with 6″ 2 fold pinch pleats with cotton lining, length: kissing the floor. The hardware is the satin brass linked here, and I chose the knob finial. You can see the install of this drapery on my Instagram story here. I am so happy with them! You will not regret this splurge-so so worth it.
The Garland to End all Garlands!
Oh my gosh this garland deserves a mic drop! I told Cori from CJH Florals that I wanted to have a garland frame the opening to the dining punch out and we talked about lots of bows and the vibe I wanted the space to feel like and then the rest is all her magic…I seriously can’t even believe how beautiful it turned out. I don’t think I’m ever going to take it down and if I do, I’ll need another garland put back up immediately! She also made the boxwood wreaths and handmade the ribbons they hang from glueing multiple ribbons together to get just the right look.
Lake House Dining Room Tablescape Details
I love our dishes so much, here is a link to our plates, and monogramed champagne flutes and glasses. They are from Skyros Designs and you can see so many more pics of them in my last dining room reveal and my last Dining room Christmas Tablescape…I use these dishes constantly!
Before and After!
When we started renovating this little punch out was a pool table room. It didn’t connect to the main living space or kitchen at all really. After removing THREE layers of tile, we discovered that the space was literally crumbling to the ground. There was nothing holding up the old windows, the wood was so rotted. We had to reframe the space, replace the windows, then continued the new hardwood from the rest of the house seamlessly, and gave it a beautifully classic shiplap ceiling.
All the unaccounted for work was pretty disheartening then, but now it’s like a little piece of Heaven that we restored. This home is from 1922 and needed 1922 things done to it to bring up to liveable, but we did it…all 1922 of them! lol! Just kidding there are still 1922 loose ends…just ask Matt he’s like so worn out from this, it’s not even funny. If you see him on the street just hug him, he needs it. (I need it too…lol!)
Lake House Dining Room Ceiling and Floors
Ceiling
We achieved the look of our ceiling with Metrie Option M Shiplap linked here. We used 16′ legnths, so we have no seams! The ceiling looks amazing and feels so coastal. With 8′ ceilings the shiplap really adds much needed sophistication and they are just stunning in person. The crown moulding that I used is this one linked here. I did not go with the Option M crown because this home has a really feminine vibe and I wanted curves. I used this crown as the crown in my kitchen as well, so that everything flowed seamlessly. I am so happy that we added this ceiling detail because it elevates our home so much. I’ll be sharing the ceiling a lot more, once I reveal more spaces.
Floors
So many of you have been asking for more photos of our floors, so this post is for you, now that they are finally uncovered! woohoo! I love of our floors and I’ve gotten so many compliments. I’m really happy with the choice that I made. Here are the details on our floors again. It’s from A & A Flooring (which is right here in Kingsville and in Essex) It’s Opus Hardwood in Shawnee and the series is Alton Oak II…the price is $6.99/sqft
I’m super excited that A & A Flooring is willing to offer you guys a 10% discount on any of your materials!! **So this is important- you have to mention this at the start of the sale and you can use code LESLIEHWD and ask to speak to Chris or Art…hope this helps with your renos and new builds because picking hardwood can be a wild goose chase for sure trying to find that exact right look and feel!
