I love rugs so freaking much because I think they are the single most affordable way to totally transform your space. I am currently obsessed with Momeni Rugs. I found this amaze rug brand when I was searching for the perfect faded neutral faux kilim style rug on a budget! When I search for something I exhaust the internet! I’m serious…sounds impossible, but it’s not at all…it just takes a boat load of patience. I knew that I wanted pattern, but also a laid back faded neutral that would not show any wear. Yup…sounds impossible but I FOUND IT! Now you can do your own stair runner faux kilim rug makeover for a STEAL!
This is the rug. It’s 2.7ft x 8ft ….it’s just so good.
Same Rug Different Size (Get it…lol!)
You might recognize this rug because I just sneak peeked the 9 x 12 size in my living room in my Pop-Up Dining Room Post! I loved it so much that I used it on my stairs and in my living room. I’m going to take lots more pics of it once I finish restyling my living room, but check out the Pop-Up Dining Room post to see it in all its glory! I LOVE IT!
Hire A Professional Carpet Installer!
Seriously there are so many tricks of the trade, tools, and trouble shooting that goes into installing carpet. We had so many pie shaped stair treads that I couldn’t imagine having figured it out. Also, we had literally no waste as a result. So you might spend on the installer, but then you’ll save on how many runners it takes you. Win win!
Ordering Your Rugs
Our staircase took 4 runners. We did not pattern match the runners. Meaning cut off the ends and seam them together within the pattern. It would have taken 3 more rugs to pattern match. It’s such a cool faded pattern that you really can’t tell at all.
Mini Rug Connoisseur in Training!
Seriously though, both my girls love renovations, helping me pick finishes, and photoshoots…mini renovators in the making!
Before and After!
Ummm isn’t that crazy?! All we did was paint the stairs white and add this fab runner! The wood stair runners were already painted brown…I wish they were wood of course but it wasn’t in our reno plan/budget to have them refinished and I’m so more than in love with how things turned out!
You have to check out Momeni Rugs…they have so many runners that would be amazing on your staircase! Or ummm anywhere! I can’t wait to show you the rug that is going to be in my Dining Room One Room Challenge Reveal coming later this week!
What do you guys think?!

This looks so stunning! I’ve not thought of a runner, but that my be the answer. My home was built in 1893, after we bought her back after my husband’s family living here 20 years prior. We realized the stairs were in need of being rebuilt, they were literally leaning! We were fortunately able to keep all the lovely posts and railing. But the stair treads no longer would match the rest of the pine floors. Looking back, they never did before anyway. This was over 10 years ago so I wasn’t thinking anywhere out of the box! At the same time, the rest of our home was being restored so floors were being refinished. The refinisher gave the treds a faux finish to match our pine floors, so basically they’re painted now. To me they appear very Orange, which our pine floors tend to be, but I really dislike them as they are now. I could musty put thr runner, but ugh, that awful orange color showing on either side I wouldn’t want. Maybe painting the treds white is the answer. Did you paint them yourself, would you share the process please. Thank you, so glad to have found you!
Happy Mothers day!

I’m so glad I could help!
We just painted them using semigloss, it took a couple coats and we caulked everywhere that we could. It really wasn’t hard at all. With the runner the painted areas don’t get any wear so that’s awesome. But even before the runner went on the white paint stood up well. I have heard of boat paint being good for floors and hard wearing…maybe google that. But we just used normal paint. Hope that helps!
